A/N: This is supposed to be a kind of ode to the period of time in our lives when we deal with 'puppy love' and we're starting to learn more about who we are as people and what we care about. Hardcore Avatar fans will recognize the title of the story as a line Toph uses to express her brief period of time with Zuko. Everyone else in thWorst Field Trip Ever -1- by =Destiny-Smasher
What I Learned at SRU -1-
EDIT: As of 8/11/2012, this first chapter has an extended intro. This story has very rare scenes of mild violence, but does contain a fair amount of harsh language. However, it has no blatant sexual scenes and no excessive gore. The only thing that would make this story "m-rated" is language. It is about college students, and I feel it is appropriate for mature teenagers and up.
A/N: Saint Roku University is heavily inspired by my own alma mater, Houghton College, and I will be blatantly ripping ideas from the college here for the sake of homage and to contribute to genuineness - as will I be expressing personal experiences of mine through thWhat I Learned at SRU -1- by =Destiny-Smasher

The Equalist airships were faster than the sky bison. Lin had foreseen this. Still, what other modes of transportation were available to them? She doubt her Metalbending Police Force airship could be of much use.

"They're gaining on us!" she called down to Tenzin. It was pretty much impossible for a sky bison to not be caught by those airships, it was obvious which one was slower. Tenzin urged Oogi to go faster but it was almost in vain.

Lin turned as she caught sight of something emerging from the airship and saw a huge net being released. If she didn't do something right then and there, the sky bison and the world's last airbenLegend of Korra Fanfic- Sacrifice by ~Alexandra989
WomanhoodIt had barely been a year since the "Gaang" had saved the world, and things had returned to relatively normal. Katara was sure Sokka and Suki were going to be engaged any day now (when Suki had more time off from her Kyoshi duties), Zuko had proved to be a kind and just Fire Lord, Aang had begun scouting the world for any potential airbenders to train within the three remaining nations, and Toph, now thirteen and as confident as ever, had opened her own Metalbending Academy.

Katara had decided to follow in Aang and Toph's footsteps. She knew Pakku had left the Northern Water Tribe to travel to the Southern Water Tribe in order to be with GraWomanhood by ~OtterMoone

Since Esteemed is still kind of "in beta" so to speak (the full story proper hasn't started yet), more dedicated folks wanting to follow every update will want to follow the series' Facebook page, which even now, has a few pieces of art (and Tumblr links to the original artist posts) that aren't ready for DA primetime yet. In meantime, more Esteemed artworks will continue to be made, as I'm commissioning various scenes I have planned to be drawn out -- so by the time the story starts there will already be plenty of artwork for reference. If you're bored and enjoyed the initial excerpt, you could try out my more amateur Toph story, Worst Field Trip Ever ([link]), or give my primary project, What I Learned at SRU ([link]), a try, as the latter boasts a fiction/fanart combo similar to what I have in mind for this project. Esteemed will become my main focus once SRU is finished.

Esteemed

(NOTE: I am currently commissioning artwork and comic strips for the story to help get my ideas flowing and get motivated, so this page is kind of a work-in-progress until the actual story starts, but there is a lengthy excerpt here to help show the concept) [link]

Esteemed is a fanfiction and fanart project focused on the life of Chief of Police Toph Beifong, exploring her stressful life as a cop while struggling to figure out how to be a good mother for her daughter, Lin, who in turn grows into a Police Chief in her mother's footsteps.

The group will highlight the story and artworks for it, but is also intended to be a place to share work revolving around the Beifong Mother and Daughter duo, as well as their friends and family.

Oh, haha. Where did you hear about this project from?
As of right now, it is technically on a temporary break, as it hasn't really started.
I still need to finish my primary Avatar fan-project, 'What I Learned at SRU,' which also has its own massive art gallery.

So for now, Esteemed is more of an art collection unified by my ideas and a story I have in mind. I have thus far written a sample of sorts to kind of give an idea of the tone I have in mind. That can be read here:

If you look in the 'Featured' folder of this group, you will find all the official 'Esteemed' artwork (works I specifically had commissioned or collaborated with for this story project). The plan is, like with SRU, to continue adding to this art gallery simultaneously as I write the story itself, with the art impacting ideas for the story, and vice versa. All fiction for the story, once I start writing it in earnest, will also be going in the Featured folder.

I hope that helps answer your question. I want to make sure I finish my other project I started before moving to this one.

My name is Jhenne, and I'm a mod over at Hou Tian, an Avatar the Last Airbender and Legend of Korra forum based roleplay site!

I'd like to invite everyone here to check out our website and join the fun! We accept original characters and have a number of canon characters available for adoption. That's just a list to get everyone thinking, but really, any canon character that isn't listed on the "Taken Characters" page is up for grabs.)

And yes, Lin Beifong is currently up for adoption. ;'D

We also have plenty of plottage to go around!

The Gaang-verse has two distinct factions: the Jade Shark -a proto-Equalist Anti Bending movement- and the Original People of the Flame -a group of Fire Nation citizens looking to infiltrate Zuko's inner circle, restore the Fire Nation to its former glory, and take back control of the Colonies; now known as Republic City.

The Krew Era has the various gangs and organized crime (Triple Threat Triads, anyone?), as well as the growing threat of an Equalist Movement resurrection. Hou Tian also has Pro-Bending aplenty; the leagues, the competition, and a special game-mode for immersing yourself in roleplaying matches. Now is the time to join up and find a team; Pro-Bending season is just around the corner!

And of course, if that doesn't strike your fancy, members are always free to pitch their own plot ideas.
